The client originally approached me with a poorly designed site that had been patched together is ASP from previous code (still on the site) written in PERL. The previous developers had gone seriously over budget and left much of the work unfinished. [Link to 2009 version at archive.org ← done by previous developers]

I created a new, innovative design; translated the code from ASP to PHP and brought the various elements together in a much more professional look and feel (and charged a fraction of what the previous developers had charged.) [2010 version ← done by me]

Five years later we implemented an even newer design, and incorporated updated technology, making it one of the most up-to-date environmental sites on the web. [2019 version ← also done by me.]

The client's previous coder found me, in an attempt to find an adequate replacement. While most of the work has been on the backend (for members and admins only) I was able to reformat the main page to a div rather than the older table layout, while maintaining the original design, thus opening the way for a possible responsive design.

The client already has a designer, who I have been able to work with to achieve the results the client wanted.

The backend scripting was ten years old and riddled with security holes. I was able to harden up the scripting and bring it up to date.

The client had a simple site that he only wanted a few tweaks made. He provided a mock-up of a new front page header and I created it for him using Photoshop. He needed a better tracking of his visitors, so I added Google Analytics to all the pages.

Since then it's been minor changes every few weeks or so. He has been able to depend on me to quickly update his site with any modification he wants, with just an email.

The client, a chiropractor, used the site to promote his practice and target local (The Los Angeles area) athletes for special programs he had developed. His previous site was a static, HTML site, but he wanted to add articles, so I created a Wordpress installation for him and migrated the content of his static site into the new Wordpress platform.

He later hired another company to redesign the site, then had me modify the entire site to a responsive layout that would display well on mobile devices.

The client's site is a Hockey training service. It consists of a public front end for marketing the service, a member's area and an administrative back end. The front end is a simple static sites, but the back end is a modified Zend installation that was abandoned by its original creators. Therefore I had to reverse engineer the coding which consisted of a complex platform of almost 20,000 separate files and scripts and the accompanying database.

I've been able to maintain his site and make changes to it as he requests. We even converted his old video streaming process from an expensive service to Amazon CloudFront, reducing his streaming costs from well over $200 a month to less than 20¢ (yes, that's cents) a month.

The client needed a more secure hosting environment and a more efficient method of providing the resources the site offered. I set up an account for them on my own hosting server and moved the more bandwidth-intensive elements of their site to an Amazon S3 account to be accessed via an Apache rewrite from the current html code, thus creating their own, personal, custom content delivery network (CDN) to minimize costs and maximize resources.

The client was locked into their current host because of a customized, proprietary version of Drupal, which had embedded triggers to prevent the site from being transferred. I was asked to find these triggers, disable them and transfer the site (minus the proprietary elements) to my server.

I was able to do so quickly and efficiently without their previous host discovering their plans. I hosted them for several years, while also providing ongoing maintenance for the underlying scripts. They eventually moved to a different host, but I continued provided DNS service for them at no cost.

The client was recommended by a colleague. Her ecommerce site was severely infected with malware. It took several days to completely flush all the infected files and harden the coding against future attacks. I then upgraded all her software to the latest versions, implemented needed payment gateway security and made the ecommerce package work with her personal inventory system.

The client ran a “brick & mortar” store and maintained the website to add sales. He needed someone tp streamline the site, optimize the search engine listing and make the overall management easier. I helped him implement more of the static data contained on the site into the ecommerce package, by creating a custom spider that would pull, store and insert meta data for each product. The limitations of the VPS he was using to host the site made spidering it problematic. However, after tweaking the code to work within those limitations I was finally able to get everything to work together.

He used me for site maintenance until he finally sold the store to a new owner.

The client offered wall-lettering applications. They wanted to add features to their website to display the specific items in the fonts and colors specified by the potential customer. Armed with a list of quotes, fonts and colors, I created the script to generate, on the fly, example images for each of the quotes, as well as custom quotes any customer wanted to order. (This was before the use of embedded fonts)

(Unfortunately, they did not want me to help redesign their site, just provide the sample quotes.)

The clients—two hard-working, young entrepreneurs—were starting their own healthcare supply business. Based on their needs, I created a custom ecommerce platform from scratch, designed specifically to meet their business model. They provided a list of products with descriptions, categories and prices. Within a month they were able to launch and their business dreams became a reality. I stayed with them through most of that first year providing ongoing maintenance and updates as sales grew and their hard work paid off.

The clients—a former Clinton staffer and a D.C. financial consultant—wanted to build a news site, specifically targeting Black Americans. Initially, they wanted me to create a MovableType installation with specific categories and features. Once completed, they had their designer take over and implement the final design. After that, they continued to use me for ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting. Eventually, due to lack of traffic, the site closed down, but I continued to be of help when problems arse on one of their personal sites.

The client simply needed someone who could make changes to his websites whenever he needed, without costing a fortune. Since I track my billable time by the minute, and most of the changes he requested took very little time, I fit his needs perfectly.

A wonderful man, and one of my favorite clients.

The client runs a nursery in California and during the holiday season rents live Christmas trees to ecological-minded locals. He needed several upgrades to his current site and hired me to implement them. First, I tweaked his site to allowed multiple orders per customer, then I created a graphic map to locate the delivery area, utilizing Google Maps API. Each delivery zone needed to be carefully outlined, the outline coded properly and then applied to the map provided in the ordering process.

I then create an optimized delivery-routing system also using the Google Maps API to geographically locate the delivery addresses and compute the most efficient route for each driver for that collection of addresses. I developed a caching system to prevent overuse of the API so previously used data could be maintained and keep the API calls within the free tier.
